Zulu Alpha x W.O.E. Commando Strap

Designed in collaboration with the elite Commando Hubert, the French Navy’s equivalent to the US Navy SEALs, the Zulu Alpha x W.O.E. Commando Strap is manufactured in the United Kingdom using UK-made elasticated webbing, a stainless steel slider, and a unique quick-release buckle sourced directly from France as directed by the Commanding Officer of the unit. The strap’s registered design system allows for easy adjustment and secure fastening, crucial for maintaining performance in the unpredictable environments encountered by military divers.

No detail was overlooked in creating the most capable strap we’ve ever designed for diving or other arduous activities. This strap has been extensively tested by and used for real-world operations by the Commando Hubert alongside the unit’s Tudor Pelagos FXD watches. 

Sizing: Executed in a 21mm width, the Commando Strap works well with both 20mm and 22mm as well as fixed lugs thanks to its unique construction and the elastic material’s flexibility. 

UK-Made Elasticated Webbing: We turned to our narrow fabrics partners in the UK to create a modern interpretation of the original parachute webbing used to create straps for the Marine Nationale’s Tudor Submariners. After breaking down webbing sourced from the Marine Nationale strand by stand, we created a new proprietary blend incorporating the precise number of rubber strands needed to replicate the look and feel of the original. 

French Rapco Buckles: Sourced directly from France as directed by the CO of Commando Hubert, these are the exact buckles used by the Marine Nationale for their kit including packs and other load-carrying equipment. The CH made the relevant introductions in the infancy of the project which would allow us to source directly from their supplier. Please note this hardware is to the spec of the Marine Nationale, not the watch industry. The buckles are extremely secure and have been tried and tested for many years in arduous environments by the unit. Providing quick-release functionality, the buckles are extremely dependable but will chip and patina with use for a look that we would say is better than brand new. 

Open Gate Slider: Designed in-house by Zulu Alpha to accommodate the removal of hardware so that this strap can be used with fixed bar watches in addition to those that use spring bars. The prototype for the slider was produced in-house with perspex then—after testing by the unit—manufactured from 2mm sheets of 304 stainless steel, laser cut by an engineering company in the North West of England before being tumbled in Liverpool to remove burring and round the edges. Per the Commando Hubert’s input, the stainless steel slider is uncoated and does not match the quick-release buckle. 

Assembly: Fully conducted in-house by Zulu Alpha in the UK. The team cuts, sews, and assembles the individual components to create a strap that will fit the vast majority of wrists from 6" - 8.5" (15.25 - 21.6 CM). Given its design, the Commando Strap can be quickly broken down and adjusted to be used over a dry suit, wet suit, or flight suit or simply swapped out onto another watch as required.
